We developed new method to make graphene that is a simple, eco-friendly ball milling process to efficiently produce edge-functionalized graphite (EFG) in solid state without involving hazardous chemicals. Ball milling technique developed could be regarded as a general approach toward low-cost, high-yield production of edge-functionalized graphene (EFG) with various functional groups of practical significance for mass production of multifunctional materials and devices based on graphene. So, to use ball milling in the presence of NF3, we have synthesized the edge-selectively functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (NFGnP). We have confirmed that graphene nanoplatelets were well functionalized with NFn by using XPS, FT-IR, solid NMR, SEM, TEM and EDAX. The resultant NFGnP displayed to have very high surface area and highly dispersion into various solvents. And also, NFGnP had outstanding electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). |
