제목 Towards an Ideal Layered Nanocomposite: PS-Grafted Clay in SBS Lamellar Triblock Copolymer
초록 To enable the insertion of individual clay layer into the polystyrene(PS) domains of a styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) triblock copolymer, layered-silicates were functinalized with PS to change the enthalpic interaction between the clay layers and the PS blocks in the SBS. The entropic interactions between the SBS chains and the PS domains on the clay were increased by increasing the molecular weight of the grafted PS chains. Additionally, we have shown that the grafting density is critical in controlling the curvature of these individual flexible sheet layered-silicates.
Incorporation of the PS modified clay into the SBS shows that the block copolymer (BCP) domains template around these PS-grafted nanoparticles. In particular, the relatively flat exfoliated particles lead to a flipping transition from the normally oberved perpendicular orientation of the BCP to a parallel orientation resulting in a parallel/parallel clay/BCP exfoliated nanocomposite morphology.
