Discovering of efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts for electrochemical water splitting is one of the major scientific challenges because of sluggish kinetics during OER and HER. Catalysts with high surface area, conductivity and good catalytic activity are of great interest. Until now, several catalyst candidates which are based on earth abundant elements including transition-metal (TMs) and its derivatives exhibited great potential because their catalytic activities can be easily tuned by controlling their composition and structure. Herein, we have synthesized several TMs based layered double hydroxides, oxide, sulfide and phosphide materials for water splitting applications. All the synthesized electrocatalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity and long-term stability. The enhanced electrochemical performance is mainly attributed to its hierarchical structure, enhanced charge-transport and high electrochemical surface area with plenty of active sites. |
