Polymer/graphene oxide smart nanocomposites and their electrorheological application |

Graphene oxide (GO)-based polymer nanocomposites with polyaniline (PANI), copolyaniline, and polystyrene (PS) are introduced as electrorheological (ER) materials, possessing the ability to be tuned from a liquid-like to a solid-like state under applied external electric fields for various potential enginering applications. While the GO/PANI composite was fabricated via in-situ oxidation polymerization, GO/ionic N-substituted copolyaniline composite was synthesized by chemical oxidative copolymerization of aniline and ionic sodium diphenylamine sulfonate in the presence of GO. Core–shell structured PS–GO microspheres were also synthesized by adsorbing the GO sheets on the PS surface. Suspensions of these particles, as ER fluids were examined using a rotational rheometer to examine effects of electric field strength. Their dielectric spectra to be correlated with their ER effect were also measured using a LCR meter. |
