제목 | A New Energetic Prepolymer - Structurally Stable PGN Prepolymer |
초록 | PGN was in fact the first energetic prepolymer investigated. Thelen et al did the initial work on PGN in the 1950’s at the Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS, now NWC). It has been recognized that PGN is an excellent energetic and promising polymer. Actually, uncured PGN prepolymer exhibits good chemical stability. However, when cured with isocyanate, the resulting polyurethane rubber shows poor stability. Long term or accelerated aging results in degradation of rubber. Further, degradation cannot be prevented by the presence of stabilizers, or by the exclusion of oxygen. This decomposition of PGN rubber is attributed to activation energy of degradation with chain scission at the urethane linkage. Such chain scission is not possible in the case of poly (NIMMO), which has no labile H atom available for transfer. This instability appears to be an inherent problem with PGN prepolymer, and is dependent on the isocyanate used. Many scientists attempted to overcome this problem by modification of chain ends group. Several years ago, we studied end group modification by ethylene oxide, but the results were not good. So, recently, we designed a new monomer without labile hydrogen atom, but it is quite similar to GN in chemically. We successfully synthesized the prepolymer and tested the stability of their elastomers at various conditions for 6 months and it is proved that they maintained their mechanical property with good resistance to tearing. This is not simple modification of end group but a new monomer for energetic prepolymer. In this year, we are going to do a scale-up process about 50kg and test their unique properties. |
