제목 Photocatalytic degradation of emerging contaminants in aquatic systems over ZnO nanofibers derived from different polymer precursors
초록 Photocatalysis, as an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP), has been recognized as an efficient way for the degradation of emerging contaminates that are present in pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCP’s). Among those PPCP’s is caffeine; a psychoactive chemical that can cause endocrine disruption to the aquatic biota. In this study, we present the solar light driven photodegradation of caffeine over C-doped ZnO photocatalyst derived from different carbon sources. Depending on the precursors used, the microstructural properties and the chemical doping of the ZnO based photocatalysts differed, which in turn tuned the photoactivity. Mechanistic study indicated that ●OH radicals are the most active reactive oxygen species responsible for the degradation of caffeine molecules.
