Purification of non-degradable organic wastewater |

Large quantities of wastewater emanates from the production of energetic materials. These waste effluents have high loads of non-degradable organics which are difficult to treat. TNT wastewater is a commonly encountered discharge during its manufacture. Previous Conventional technologies applied to treat this are associated with higher energy expenditure and secondary pollution. However the application of freeze crystallization has the ability of solve these problems. In this process, wastewater is cooled down below the melting point of the water causing the formation of pure ice crystals, after crystallization, ice and residual impurities are separated by sweating. Layer freeze crystallization has a simple process design and low energy intake. In this study, conditions of layer crystallization and sweating. Results obtained showed that final crystalline layer purity is depended on the growth rate, layer structures, fraction of impurities included. These properties were controlled by controlling cooling rates, sweating rates and red water concentrations. |
