The effect of organosolv pretreatment was investigated using a 30 L bench-scale ball mill reactor. The various reaction conditions were attempted to confirm the optimal condition for the enhanced enzymatic digestibility of Miscanthus x giganteus (MG), room temperature – 170 °C of reaction temperature, 30 min – 120 min of reaction time, 30% – 60% of ethanol concentration and 10 – 20 of liquid/solid ratio at non-catalyst condition. The pretreatment effects were evaluated by chemical composition analysis, enzymatic digestibility test and X-ray diffraction of the treated samples. The pretreatment conditions for the highest glucan digestibility yield were determined at 170 °C, 90 min, 40% (EtOH conc.) and L/S=10. At this pretreatment condition, XMG (xylan + mannan + galactan) fractionation yield, delignification and glucan digestibility (with cellulase (Cellic CTec2), 15 FPU (filter paper unit)/g-glucan enzyme loading) of treated MG were 84.4%, 53.2% and 86.0% respectively. |
