발표분야 Molecular Self-Assembly from Small Molecules and Liquid Crystals to Macromolecules
제목 The peculiar structures induced from helical nanofilament confined in various surface topographies
초록 The bent-core liquid crystal (LC) molecules are a topic tempting to researchers in that formation of a chiral superstructure which is helical nanofilament (HNF) is driven by simple self-assembly of LC molecules in “banana” or B phases. Here, we report that surface topography could affect not only suppression of forming HNF but also generation of peculiar structures that are unachievable by general self-assembly of LC molecules. Various surface topographies were fabricated using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) synthesized by electrochemical reaction. Through etching of alumina part in AAO and replica process, various surface topographies were acquired for concave and convex topographies respectively and LC molecules dissolved in organic solvent were spin-casted on these surfaces for thin thickness. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveals that peculiar structures such as barrel-like and knit-like structures form while formation of HNF observed in bulk is suppressed.
