Preparation and Characterization of Superhydrophobic Carbon Nanotubes Surfaces |

In this work, the superhydrophobic surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) films were produced by chemical fluorination. The chemical compositions and microstructures of the prepared films surface were investigated by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The wettability of MWCNTs was determined by the contact angle in different liquid. The resulting films surface exhibited the water contact angle of 157.7°, which are definite characteristics of superhydrophobic surfaces. The 3D MWCNTs networks and the low surface energy of the fluoro groups play important roles in creating the superhydrophobic surface of the MWCNTs films. |
