Dual stimuli-sensitive zwitterionic fluorescence nanoparticle for cancer cell imaging |

A novel zwitterionic fluorescent nanoparticle (ZFNPs) containing polysulfobetaine groups with BODIPY fluorophores and graphene oxide (GO) plates are prepared for the detection of tumor cells in response to the intra and extracellular stimuli. The fluorescence intensities of the ZFNPs are highly influenced by temperature and pH. Because of the extraordinarily high quenching efficiency of GO, the ZFNPs exhibit minimal fluorescence intensity at physiological temperature and pH, while strong emissions are observed at endosomal/lysosomal and basic pH condition. AFM measurement reveals different thicknesses of the ZFNPs against pH changes from acidic to basic. Confocal images of the prepared ZFNPs against MDA-MB 231 breast cancer cells confirm the intense green fluorescence at low and high pH values but no fluorescence signal under physiological pH condition enabling the ZFNPs as a novel fluorescence probe. |
