Interaction between different types of vinyl monomers with different types of graphene surfaces will be presented. Seven different types of vinyl monomers (styrene, vinyl pyridine, propyl oxy, pyrenemethyl methacrylate, vinyl carbazole, cyanostyrene, and trifluoroethyl methacrylate) and three different graphene surfaces (Highly-ordered pyrolytic graphite, reduced graphene oxide, and single layer graphene) were chosen. The interaction was studied based on adhesion forces, which were calculated from the force-distance curve obtained by atomic force spectroscopy. Vinyl monomers with a nitrogen atom shows higher adhesion force than those without nitrogen, possibly due to the lone pair electron on nitrogen.
