Sodium hybrid capacitors (NHCs) are an energy storage system that canachieve higher energy and higher power densities. In NHCs, carbons arepotential electrode materials for both anode and cathode. They can easily betailored in terms of morphology, microstructure, and pore structure for highperformance. In this work, we report a synthesis of hard carbon based ontemplating strategy using eutectic mixtures of alkali metal halides, i.e., LiBrand KBr (60:40 wt%), which act as templates and carbonization mediator togenerate a hierarchical porous structure. The resulting porous hard carbons, denoted as GL-Br, feature a three-dimensional porous structure with a highsurface area of 910 m2/g, a high pore volume of 0.83 cm3/g,and large interlayer spacing of 0.405 nm, which enable high sodium ion insertionof 322 mAh/g between 0.0 and 3.0 V vs. Na/Na+ and the highhypochlorite adsorption of 50 mAh/g between 2.0 and 4.2 V vs. Na/Na+at a current density of 250 mA/g, respectively. |
