Two-stage process was developed to enhance the lipid production in Chlorella vulgaris. In first stage, high cell density was achieved under normal growth conditions, and various post-cultural incubation conditions were applied in second stage to obtain the maximum lipid production under nitrogen-deficient condition. The maximum lipid content (55% of DCW) was produced under combination of 100 µmol/m²/s light, 1 ppm NO3-N, 2 ppm PO4-P, and 2% CO2 in 0.25 vvm aeration. This two-stage process is proved to be advantageous to enhance the overall lipid productivity without sacrificing the biomass concentration. |
