Recently, functionalized polymer nanoparticles have been widely utilized and have shown great potential in cancer diagnosis and therapy, as they can be designed and fabricated to recognize cellular and molecular processes in the body. In this study, we prepared hyaluronate-based nanoparticles that can respond to changes in glucose concentrations. Phenylboronic acid, which is known to reversibly bind to diols of glucose, was chemically coupled to the backbone of hyaluronate. Nanoparticles were then prepared via self-assembly of the polymer amphiphiles in water and various characteristics of hyaluronate nanoparticles were investigated. Structural changes of hyaluronate nanoparticles at various saccharide concentrations were confirmed. Cytotoxicity and cellular uptake of hyaluronate nanoparticles were also evaluated in vitro. |
