Adsorption Characteristics of Chlorinated Organic Compounds onto Activated Carbon |

This study investigated the characteristics of adsorption and separation for P-CPA, MCPA, and 2,4,5-T, from the aqueous solution onto the granular activated carbon (GAC). Adsorption equilibrium capacities of the Phenoxacetic herbicides increased with decreasing pH and temperature of the solution on the GAC. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm of P-CPA, MCPA, and 2,4,5-T was well represented by Sips equation. Kinetic parameters were measured in a batch adsorber to analyze the adsorption rates of the Phenoxacetic herbicides. The internal diffusion coefficient of the Phenoxacetic herbicides in intraparticle were determined by comparing the experimental concentration curves with those predicted from the surface diffusion model (SDM) and pore diffusion model (PDM). The internal diffusion of the Phenoxacetic herbicides in intraparticles was explained by PDM. The linear driving force approximation (LDFA) model was used to simulate the isothermal adsorption behavior of the Phenoxacetic herbicides in a fixed bed adsorber and successfully predicted. |
