Research and development in epoxy resins was one of hot subjects in the last several decades due to their excellent physical properties as well as various applications such as adhesives, coatings, and composites. To extend applications and/or to endow new physical properties, epoxy formulations including nanoscale fillers of clays, POSS, carbon nanotubes, and so on are being continuously developed, tested, and commercialized. Recently, graphene platelet has been also considered as ideal reinforcing filler to improve the thermal, mechanical, and electrical performances of polymeric materials, because it has an outstanding elastic modulus of ~1 TPa, electrical conductivity of ~104 S/cm, and thermal stability. In the current study, we have manufactured epoxy nanocomposite films reinforced with various contents of graphene platelets via thermally-activated curing process. For preparing the epoxy-based nanocomposite films, two different sizes of graphene platelets are incorporated. |
