PVDF-TrFE Actuator with Methacrylate Elastomer |

Elastomeric Methacrylate based triblock copolymers [Poly(methylmethacrylate-b-dodecylmethacrylate-b-methylmethacrylate)](PMDM) were prepared by ruthenium catalyst based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Obtained series of the PMDM copolymers with different molecular weights and weight fractions showed well-controlled polydispersity (PDI≤1.2). These elastomeric PMDM copolymers were then mixed with poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) in THF and then film-casted at RT. The PMDM was homogeneously dispersed into PVDF-TrFE, because of high compatibility of PMMA to PVDF-TrFE to give well-defined high ordered structures, which were confirmed by SAXS and AFM. Blended PMV films with using carbon grease as an electrode were carried out measuring the displacement of their thickness strain depending on electric charge. As a result of that, we obtained interesting thickness-strain displacement (Sz>7%) overcoming the PVDF-TrFE (65/35) limited strain range (Sz<1%). |
