Influence of H2O and HCl on the H2S removal using Zn-Ti-based sorbents |

The sulfur removing capacities of various Zn-Ti-based sorbents were investigated in a fixed-bed reactor under gas compositions with H2O and HCl at high and middle temperatures. All the sorbents were not affected by H2O at high temperature. However, reaction rate of ZnO-TiO2 (ZT) dramatically decreased as the concentration of H2O increased at middle temperature, while ZTC and ZTN sorbents promoted with cobalt and nickel, respectively, did not depend on the H2O concentration. The presence of HCl within gas compositions decreased the sulfur removing capacities of ZT sorbent at both middle and high temperatures due to poisoning of HCl and zinc loss, respectively, while did not affect the sulfur removing capacities of ZTC and ZTN sorbents at both temperatures. It was found that cobalt and nickel additive played an important role to improve the reaction rate of H2S removal and prevent poisoning of HCl by providing the extra heat released when the additive reacted with H2S.
