Effect of the mechanical and optical properties of polycrystalline YAG by using spark plasma sintering and high energy ball milling process |

In this study, nano-size YAG powder co-mixed with 0.25 wt.% LiF was used to fabricate transparent polycrystalline YAG specimens by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) technique and High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) process. The presence of the LiF additive in the initial nano-powder allows obtaining disc shaped (up to 1.5 mm thick) transparent specimens at outcome of 20 min treatment at 1400 °C. The mechanical and optical properties of the polycrystalline YAG were determined by residual void, pore, grain size and densification. Fabricated polycrystalline YAG sample of crystallinity, morphology, structure and transmission were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and UV-Vis spectra. |
