Functional Peptide Containing Injectable Hydrogels for Deliverying Bioactive Agents |

To deliver therapeutic agents, injectable hydrogels have attracted a lot of interests because of high water contents and the ability to deliver them in a minimally invasive manner. Herein, we designed injectable hydrogel materials using functional peptides including gelatin, albumin and lysozyme. Gelatin peptide contains abundant Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequences which can serve as cell attachment sites recognized by many integrins, so cell adhesion and viability can be facilitated after transplantation. Also, albumin and lysozyme are expected to interact with various bioactive molecules, so enhanced sustained release behavior can be expected when it is employed in delivery carriers. Bioactive agents including proteins and cells were incorporated into the functional peptides based hydrogels and transplanted subcutaneously, and we investigated the controlled release behaviors of hydrogels and resultant therapeutic effects. |
