Here, we employed a catechol-quaternized poly(dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMA-CA) to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The TiO2 was efficiently immobilized into PDMA-CA via metal-catecholate interaction, and the remaining catechol moieties can be employed for surface coating. The catalytic performance of PDMA-CA-TiO2 was confirmed by time-dependent methylene blue decomposition under ultraviolet light irradiation. Furthermore, the PMDA-CA-TiO2-coated surface was found has antifouling property which indicated by the detachment of HeLa cell in the presence of UV light. Thus, this approach can improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 also provides antifouling property which become an advantage compared with conventional photocatalytic system.
