Molecular Composite Membranes for High Temperature PEMFC |

We used nano-sized material whose diameter is 1~3 nm ranges and molecular composite with Nafion for high temperature PEMFC. We grafted phosphonic acid moities to nanoparticles and we modified organic vertex groups of POSS by grafting phosphonic acid moieties (POSS-P) for improved proton conductivity at high temperature condition. Because phosphonic acid is a good candidate for high temperature proton carriers as well as solvents under anhydrous condition, Nafion molecular composites showed highly improved proton conductivities at high temperature (0.045 S/cm at 120 oC/<40% RH) and anhydrous condition (0.025 S/cm at 120 oC/0% RH). When compounded with nanocomposites, they yielded a simultaneous increase in stain and strength. |
