Hollow Capsules of Graphene Oxides Prepared by the Layer-by-Layer Deposition |

Graphene has recently gained intense attention in many research fields because of their unique properties. Graphene oxides prepared by the exfoliation of graphites enables the solution process of graphene sheets. In this study, we prepared graphene oxide hollow capsules through the layer-by-layer deposition onto sacrificial cores. Positively charged graphene oxides and negatively charged graphene oxides were used as building materials for the LBL assembly of graphene multilayer films deposited on sacrificial silica microparticle. After removing the sacrificial cores with HF treatment, hollow capsules containing multilayers of graphene oxides were successfully prepared. Thermal reduction was further performed to increase the mechanical strength of graphene oxide multilayers. It is noted that structural stability was improved by the thermal reduction of graphene oxide sheets. Mechanical properties of the graphene hollow capsules were evaluated by novel indentation technique. |
