Effects of Modified Graphene Oxide on HPDLC Performance |

The morphology and electro-optical performance of holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals (HPDLC) were investigated with the addition of vinyl modified graphene oxide (MGO) to the formulations of conventional polyurethane acrylate based HPDLC. The driving voltage and rising time of the films decreased with the addition and increasing amounts of MGO due to the increased effective local electric field across the liquid crystal (LC) droplet. HPDLC with MGO particles augmented the conductivity of polymer phase and hence the local electrical field imposed on LC droplet, which overcomes the threshold for driving and reduces operating voltage and rising time. For electro-optical measurements, a square wave voltage operating from 0 to 80V was applied across the HPDLC cell. The morphology of the HPDLC gratings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). |
