There has been increasing attention to the offshore plant particularly for liquefied natural gas floating production and storage offloading (LNG-FPSO). In the topside of LNG-FPSO, there are many chemical processes including acid gas removal unit (AGRU) and liquefaction process. The main challenge of designing chemical process in LNG-FPSO lies mainly on the offshore conditions incurred by the ship motions such as permanent tilt and dynamic motions. Since the fundamental effect of the offshore conditions on a packed column is the liquid and gas mal-distribution, in this study, hydraulics models including liquid distribution, holdup, pressure drop, and gas distribution under offshore conditions were developed. To validate the models, a packed column with 0.4 m diameter and 4 m packed height was built and the relevant experiments were performed. With the experimental data, the developed models were validated by adjusting key parameters. It can be concluded that the developed hydraulic model can provide the liquid and gas distribution in a packed column under offshore conditions. |
