Synthesis of PEO-based Block Copolymer with the Thiol Group at the Chain End and Deimidation under Acidic Condition |

In this study, poly (ethylene oxide) was synthesized through living anionic polymerization using potassium thioacetate as an initiator. Commercially available thioacetate was dissolved in purified DMSO under high vacuum. After the system was completely degassed in the high vacuum line, purified EO gas was introduced into the reactor through vacuum distillation. The reaction system was heated at 70°C for 24h. The resulting polymer was terminated using N-phenylmaleimide, followed by precipitation in excess diethyl ether. Deimidation of the resulting polymer was performed using hydrazine monohydrate/HCl in DMSO at 120°C for 24h. The resulting polymer was reduced using NaBH4 in DMF. This resulted in the production of poly (ethylene oxide -b- maleic hydrazide) with the thiol functional group at the chain end. In this presentation, we will report the preliminary results. |
