To address the increasing issues associated with global warming, the search for renewable energy carriers that emit no greenhouse gases such as CO, CO2, or NOx has significant attention. Hydrogen is recognized as a clean and sustainable energy carrier and it can store a large amount of renewable energies. To realize hydrogen economy, an efficient hydrogen storage system is necessary. In this context, numerous chemical hydrogen storage materials such as ammonia borane, formic acid, and ammonia have been proposed. We present here on the properties of liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) based on conjugated cyclic alkanes that absorb molecular hydrogen efficiently in the presence of transition metal catalysts. |
