Comparison of Sponge Scaffolds fabricated using Egg Shell HAp and HAp Synthesized through microwave assisted method |

In this work, we fabricated two kinds of porous HAp scaffolds using inorganic salt synthesized HAp powder and Egg shell derived HAp powder. Each porous HAp scaffolds was fabricated using 45 ppi Polyurethane sponge by coating polymer modified HAp slurry. After several times of dip coating and subsquent drying, sample were burn out and sintered by microwave furnace at 1350°C. X-ray diffraction analysis was performed to characterize the phase identity. Microstructures of the composites were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and compressive strength, porosity was also measured. In vitro biocompatibility of the HAp scaffolds was determined using MC3TC-E1 pre-osteoblast cells and evaluated by MTT assay and cell proliferation behavior using confocal microscopy. In vivo experiment, implanted HAp scaffolds was collected after 1, 3 and 6 months of implantation and new bone formation was evaluated by using micro-CT analysis and histological staining. |
