Hierarchically porous polymers containing multiscale porous structures from micro- (< 2 nm), meso- (> 2 nm, < 50 nm) to macroporous (> 50 nm) length scales are expected to be useful for separation, templating and adsorption. For hierarchically porous polymers, pore size control at each length scale as well as fully interconnected pore structure is essential to exploit their structural advantages such as facile mass transport and size-selective diffusion. Here, we present a route to preparing porous polymers containing hierarchically organized, interconnected and controlled micro-, meso- and macropores with high porosity (> 90%). We combined hyper-cross-linking, block polymer self-assembly, and emulsion technology to integrate micropores, mesopores and macropores within a crosslinked and monolithic polymer framework . We further demonstrate dye adsorption can be accelerated in the hierarchically porous polymer thanks to facilitated access to porous surface. |
