NO, NO2 and SO2 have received particular attention since the 1970s because of concern about not only human health effects and atmospheric visibility impairment but also a number of other effects, including material corrosion and ecosystem interference. Many researchers have used numerous materials to conduct studies on efficient adsorbents to remove NO, NO2 and SO2 for a long time. Some of the materials used were activated carbon, activated carbon fiber, alumina, metal catalyst, etc. In our previous study (Lee et al. 2001), we have reported the following common results shown during adsorption of each pure-component of both NO, NO2 and SO2 using K-IAC: a. The basic characteristics were provided to the non-polar surface of activated carbon using KOH, enhancing the adsorption efficiency of NOx and SO2. b. OH- in KOH played the role of selective adsorption site reacting NOx and SO2. K+ helped NOx and SO2 to be stably adsorbed to K-IAC. c. After pure-component adsorption of NOx and SO2 respectively to K-IAC, these substances had strong chemical interaction with KOH according to the surface characteristics, producing oxide crystal on the surface and thereby changing the chemical structure of K-IAC surface. In this experiment, NO-NO2-SO2-O2 adsorption of NOx-SO2 based on the above single component adsorption result was attempted. This study aims at identifying competitive behavior characteristics in the simultaneous adsorption of NO, NO2 ,O2 and SO2 using K-IAC. |
