제목 On the Effect of Different Sintering Methods of 30% BCP-Ti composites: a Comparative Study
초록 Clinically both titanium and calcium phosphate based materials are widely used as implant biomaterials with their respective excellent mechanical features and biocompatibility. Although Ti metal has excellent mechanical properties, it still has the problem of bio-inertness and lack of osteo-integration. On the other hand, despite having similar chemical structure of bone mineral and having excellent bio-resorption behavior, the mechanical properties of calcium phosphate ceramics are not eligible enough for post operative load bearing application in human hard tissue defect site. One reasonable approach would be to mediate the features of the two by making composites. Sintering of Ti- biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) is difficult because of the chemical instability of the phases at high temperature. Conventional vacuum sintering is common for Ti powder but Spark Plasma and Microwave sintering in inert atmosphere are quick methods to overcome the prolonged reaction time. The effect on sintering reactions and mechanical, biochemical properties of the 70%Ti-30%BCP composites for three different sintering processes were investigated here. Detailed micro-structural and morphological analyses were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties were characterized by relative density, Vickers hardness and compressive strength measurement. Phase characteristics were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Cell viability and biocompatibility were investigated by MTT assay and one cell morphology analysis.
