Polypyrrole (PPy) is a conducting polymer (CP) that undergoes volume expansion/contraction when the oxidation level is changed. This change in volume related to insertion/expulsion of ions has been utilized for actuation and is attractive because it can be controlled electrochemically. Meanwhile the development of specific ion selective sensor for application in clinical, industrial, and environmental is an on-going challenge. However, specific ion selective sensor has problems which are lack of manufacturing technique in matrix, high price, and complicated usage. Therefore, from remarking the importance of specific ion detection in solution and the potential of CP actuator as an ion selective sensor material, we fabricated CP actuators based on various types of PPy-ionophore composite films for sodium ion selective sensor and investigated the effect of actuation according to sodium, magnesium, potassium, and calcium ions. |
