Carbon nitrides (C3N4) are, in the ideal case, organic compounds consisted of sp2 hybridized carbon and nitrogen atoms. Among the various allotropes, of particular interest is the graphitic form or its polymeric derivatives featuring intrinsic stability and electronic structures superior to the conventional transition metal oxides, sulfides and nitrides counterparts. In this talk, I will briefly describe our recent efforts to advance the polymer semiconductor, how chemical and electronic structures can be simultaneously optimized and how the polymer can be textured in order to make it more efficient for photocatalytic applications. focus will be on 1) molecular cooperative assembly leading to morphology development and anisotropic, collective interactions, 2) ionothermal synthesis using eutectic mixtures of alkali metal halides allowing synergistic optimization of bandgap and charge recombination, and 3) formation of 3D macroscopic structures of graphene-like g-CN. |
