Ferrogel has been often used in the field of biomedical engineering due to its unique responsiveness to the magnetic field. However, ferrogel prepared from natural polysaccharides has shown limited mechanical properties. In this study, stretchable and self-healing ferrogel was designed and prepared from hyaluronate-based derivatives in the presence of iron oxide nanoparticles. In brief, oxidized hyaluronate and hydrazide-modified hyaluronate were used as base materials to form gels, and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were added to the gels. This self-healing ferrogel system showed enhanced stretchability and was useful to construct various complex structures by extrusion-based 3D printing. This ferrogel system may have potential in a wide range of biomedical applications including tissue regeneration. |
