A relatively low temperature synthesis of nano-structured Nafion/CeO2 composites was carried out without any heat treatment and surfactant. Preparation of colloidally stable nafion-ceria solutions was possible because of self-assembled structure of Nafion where ceria nanoparticles were dispersed uniformly in the presence of nafion ionomer solution. Obtained ceria/Nafion solutions were casted to prepare ceria/Nafion nanocomposite films containing different amounts of ionomer-ceria solutions. Formation of ceria nanoparticles in the solutions and the nanocomposite films were characterized by SEM, TGA, FTIR, UV-Vis, and EDS analysis. Also, type of Nafion, amount of ceria precursors, and effect of various catalysts were investigated to study their effect on the dispersibility and size of ceria nanoparticles in the solutions and the nanocomposite films. |
