Isopropylation of naphthalene with isopropanol was investigated using a high pressure fixed bed microreactor over MCM-22, Mordenite and USY zeolite catalysts. It was found that H-MCM-22 gave both low activity and selectivity for 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene, and H-mordenite showed high selectivity but very low activity, in contrast, USY exhibited very high activity and considerable selectivity and thus gave a high yield of 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene. The observed reactivity is discussed in relation with zeolite structures. |
