Electrical Characterization of Beta Alumina by Impedance Spectroscopy |
초록 |
Beta alumina has a crystal structure composed of spinel blocks and sodium oxide conducting planes in c-axis direction and thus exhibits a huge conduction anisotropy. For the practical application polycrystalline materials are used e.g. for Na-S battery and AMTEC. Beta alumina samples were prepared by different processing routes. AC 2-probe impedance measurements on disk pellets were conducted using various electrodes of Pt, Au, and Na over a wide frequency and temperature range using a cryostat and a hot-stage. (sodium metal electrodes were used below 80°C). AC 4-probe method was also applied on a bar shape sample using Au paste and wire electrodes. AC 2-probe impedance spectra exhibit complicated response and the analysis scheme has not been yet established. Low temperature measurements revealed more clearly microstructure-dependent electrical properties of beta alumina. At higher temperature the electrode polarization dominates the AC response. AC 4-probe method was shown to separate sample response from the electrode polarization. Two measurements were shown consistent by a parametric analysis of the imepdance spectra using a new equivalent circuit model where two parallel conduction paths with different blocking effects are connected by distributed shunt capacitances. |
