제목 | Characterization of electrochromic nickel oxide layer with various compositions |
초록 | Nickel oxide is one of the well-known electrochromic materials of anodic coloration. In a smart window which is one of the well-known electrochromic devices, nickel oxide layer is generally used as a counter electrode with enhancing coloration efficiency of whole device with a pair of tungsten oxide layer which is cathodic coloration material. As increasing demand of energy conservation in many fields, necessity of smart window in a building is also increased which results in rising the interests of electrochromic materials. In this study, tungsten oxide layer determines mainly the efficiency of coloration and decoloration of whole device, and nickel oxide layer receives the counter reaction with mild coloration. However, the nickel oxide layer shows comparably smaller electrochromic reaction and lower cyclic durability compared with the tungsten oxide layer. To enhance the electrochemical reaction properties of the counter electrode, nickel was alloyed with tungsten. Using the Ni-W alloy target with various ratio of 5 to 50 %, the counter nickel tungsten oxide electrode was sputtered on an indium tin oxide transparent electrode. The mechanical properties of the Ni-W oxide layer was demonstrated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Also, the optical and electrochemical properties of the Ni-W oxide layer were determined in this study. |
