Optical and thermal properties of SiO2-Al2O3-CuO glass for application in laser sealing |

Various types of hermetic sealing techniques have been applied for the electronic devices and typically the device has been sealed by the heating whole parts under the high temperature. The laser sealing has strong point in protecting the inner part relatively vulnerable against the heat, because it can generate the heat the local part which want to be sealed. CuO was added in the SiO2-Al2O3 glass system to enhance the laser absorption capacity of the glass. After preparing the homogeneously melted SiO2-Al2O3-CuO glass, optical absorption coefficient and thermal properties were evauated. The optical absorbance coefficient in 1064nm, which is very important in laser heating, was proportional to the content of CuO. The thermal properties such as glass transition temperature and coefficient of thermal expansion were directly related to the content of CuO which plays as a modifier in the glass. It is concluded that SiO2-Al2O3-CuO glass composition may be a suitable candidate material for the laser sealing. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of CuO content on thermal and optical properties of the glasses and designing proper glass composition for the laser sealing. |
