In the present study, development of an integrated process i.e., furfural extraction, catalytic conversion of furfural to 2-methylfuran followed by condensation with 2-pentanone and hydrodeoxygenation is construed in a step wise process. Firstly, extraction of aqueous furfural is carried out using 2-pentanol as solvent. Next, this furfural in 2-pentanol solution is applied to simultaneous hydrogenation and dehydrogenation to produce 2-pentanone and 2-methyl furan over Cu-ZnO catalysts. Latter, the product mixture concentrated by conducting distillation via removing unreacted 2-pentanol hydrogenation. The effluent of distilled product further used for aldol condensation reaction over zeolite catalysts to produce hydroxyalkylation/alkylation of 2-methylfuran and 2-pentanone. Finally, conducted hydrodeoxygenation to produce long chain hydrocarbons. In summary, we demonstrate a four step catalytic process to produce long chain hydrocarbons from furfural and 2-petanol. |
