Conventional polarizer has some problems such as the difficulty of durability improvement, the complexity on process and the thick film. For this reason, it is unsuitable for flexible display. Consequently, we need to develope alternative thin film polarizers. The best way to satisfy this objective is the coatable polarizer. Previously, we reported a novel coatable polarizer based on a photocurable LCLC formulation which was shear coated. This method provided outstanding coating processibility, good degree of polarization and mechanical properties. In this presentation, we present the fabrication of thin film polarizer by using a spontaneous orientation of LCLC on a rubbed alignment layer. This method can provide not only the convenience of coating process but also the uniform coating performance compared to that of the conventional shear coating process. Polarization characteristics of the fabricated thin film were investigated by POM and polarized UV-vis spectrometer. |
