Synthesis and Characterization of M-doped La2Ti2O7 |

Among various types of dopants, only Cr and Fe showed the intense absorption in the visible light region (> 400nm), over which H2 was produced photocatalytically in the presence of methanol under visible light irradiation. The results from XPS and theoretical calculation of electronic structure revealed that the ionic state of doped Cr and Fe was +3 and the contribution of these dopants on the valence band of La2Ti2O7 was negligible. The asymmetrical distance between Ti and neighboring O atoms resulted in the distorted TiO6 in La2Ti2O7, as verified by Ti K-edge XANES. H2 evolution rate was a little higher for Cr-doped one than that for Fe-doped one, since the band gap energy of Cr and Fe-doped one was 2.2eV and 2.6eV, respectively, and thus larger number of photon could be absorbed for Cr-doped one. |
