Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) has been studied abundantly due to the unique property of semicrystallinity and solubility in both aqueous and organic solvents. This study reveals the structure of PEO chains within the bindings which was formed by gamma-ray irradiation. To probe the behavior of PEO chains, the PEO hydrogel with different concentration was investigated by using small angle X-ray scattering, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry. The results present the crystallinity under the dry condition and the lamella structure which changes according to the deformation and wettability. The investigated structural aspect demonstrates the existence of chain loops which show dissolving and crystalline in the confined system by crosslinking. This observation provides the reversible behavior of amphiphilic PEO chains controlled by wettability. |
