Carboranes have a high content of 10B atoms with the highest neutron capture cross section among all light elements. Such a property makes them a perfect potential candidate for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). Low water solubility is disadvantage when using carborane to BNCT. So solubility problem can be solved by connecting each carborane with Polyethylene glycol (PEG). This research used four different molecular weights of PEG (Mwt. 6000, 5010, 3800, 500). Carborane-PEG at the air-water interface and its Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were investigated by using surface pressure area isotherm and atomic force microscope (AFM). Surface pressure area isotherms show that Carborane- PEG has different limiting area according to the molecular weight of Carborane-PEG. AFM images also show the close-packed arrangement for the higher concentration of PEG. Carborane-PEGs make small domains at low pressure. As the surface pressure increase, the domains are aggregated and make larfe domains. |
