Conformational Changes of DPAA and Styrene Mixed monolayer at the Air/Water Interface |

Molecular conformation and orientation of DPAA monomer was investigated by Langmuir-Blodgett technique. DPAA monomer has para-dodecyl phenyl group attached to the acrylamide part. It has been well known that acrylamides can make stable monolayer on the water surface. The limiting area of a DPAA monomer at the air/water interface is 31 Ǻ2 by extrapolating from the steeply increased slope to the surface pressure zero point of the isotherm. Isotherm of DPAA monolayer contains a sharp increase which represents rapid change of molecular conformation. After the point, surface pressure maintained regularly until DPAA monolayer is aggregated. We also studied about the mixed monolayer system of DPAA and styrene monomer varying styrene molar ratio. Surface area in isotherm was changed by different molar ratio of styrene monomer. X-ray reflectivity and ellipsometry were performed for thickness profiles of DPAA monolayer at different surface pressure conditions. AFM was also performed for observation the morphologies of DPAA monolayer and styrene mixed monolayer. |
