Synthesis of Polymer-Coated Co-Pt-CdSe@CdS Metal-Semiconductor Hybrid Nanorods |

Colloidal hybrid nanomaterials have extensively been developed because of their dual synergistic properties within a single hybrid nanostructure for various applications such as photocatalysis, bioimaging, and so forth. Here, we report the synthesis of novel metal-semiconductor hybrid nanorods, composed of cobalt-tipped Pt-CdSe@CdS hybrid nanorods. Cobalt nanoparticles were grown from the platinum tips of CdSe@CdS nanorods synthesized by the “seeded growth” method. The size of cobalt nanoparticles was controlled by: 1) using functional group-terminated polystyrene ligands which were synthesized in gram-scale by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP); 2) simply controlling the reaction time and temperature. Due to the magnetic properties of cobalt tips within the hybrid nanorods, these nanomaterials exhibit self-assembly behavior without any external conditions, maintaining its original optical properties of semiconductor core@shell nanostructures. |
