제목 | Fabrication and Applications of Polymer Photonic Crystals |
초록 | Photonic crystals (PCs) could effectively modify the emission and propagation of the light with minimal losses and their promising applications have attracted extensive research interest. Our group has demonstrated the simple fabrication of tough polymer photonic crystals, and their applications for color coatings optical switches, chemical and biochemical sensors etc. The PCs with high strength were prepared from latex spheres with a hard PS core and an elastometric PMMA/PAA shell. The mono-dispersed latex spheres were synthesized via one-step emulsion polymerization without purification[1].PC films with brilliant colors covering the wavelength period from the UV to the IR can be fabricated over large areas by vertical deposition method and even spray coating. The wettability of the PCs could be well controlled from superhydrophilicity to superhydrophobicity by adjusting the assembly temperatureor pH[2]. Furthermore, functional polymer inverse opals were achieved by using the PCs as template, such as high stable polyimide inverse opal PCs, an electrically tunable polypyrrole inverse opal, the colorful humidity-sensitive PC hydrogel[3a] and oil-sensitive inverse opals[3b].Moreover, the PCs could be used as wavelength-selective concentratorand effectively improve the output power of dye-sensitive solar cell[4]. The PCs could also be utilized in UV protection, colorful coating materials[1] , and to enhance the fluorescence emission of dyes and energy transfer of plasmonic device. Furthermore, by using the PCs’ superior properties in localizing the emission, the sensitivity of DNA detection system based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer were greatly improved, and an ultrasensitivity detection down to 13.5 femtomolar was achieved.
