The polymer electrolyte plays an important role for energy storage and conversion electrochemical devices such as lithium batteries, fuel cells and solar cells. Characteristics of polymer electrolyte often determine the performance of lithium batteries and fuel cells. In this presentation, modification of polymer electrolyte for lithium batteries and polymer fuel cells is discussed. To prevent crystallization of the solid polymer electrolyte for lithium batteries, we synthesized new plasticizers with the various chain length of multi-armed oligo(ethylene oxide) to decrease the crystallinity and, thus, increase the ionic conductivity at low temperature. Composite Nafion® membranes using polymer with rigid backbone such as polysulfones and polyaniline were prepared to increase the proton conductivity at low temperature. |
