High Ion Conducting Polymer Electrolytes based on Supramolecular Self-assembled PEO-derivatives |

There is a significant attention to the development of solid polymer electrolytes towards next-generation lithium ion batteries to alleviate the safety concerns in current lithium batteries. Among a range of polymer electrolytes, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and its derivatives have been widely investigated to date on account of the intrinsically high Li+ conductivity of PEO chains. A major issue remained unsolved in PEO-based systems is their poor mechanical properties, which can potentially lead to fatal flaws in dendritic shorts. In this study, a set of PEO-derivatives were synthesized by coupling of amine-containing moieties and PEO chains. A unique supramolecular self-assembly nature among amine groups provided mechanical integrity even at high temperature up to 120 ℃ while phase-separated PEO domains demonstrated efficient Li+ transport properties. The correlation between ionic conductivity and self-assembled morphologies was explored by combining SAXS and impedance spectroscopy. |
